Research Description ● Research Fellow (2007 - )
● Deputy Director (1999-2002,
Recently, I initiated the following research projects: 2008-2010)
(1) PLASH: A Platform for Location Aware Services with Human Computation. ● Associate Research Fellow (1996-
2007)
The PLASH platform is designed to enable easy deployment of location-aware services, so
that users can contribute their location-related and other data by using the services; this is ● Assistant Research Fellow (1993-
1996)
the primary di erence from traditional location-aware services. The collective e orts and
data generated by humans or sensors (or both) can be used to help solve di cult location ● Associate Professor, NSYSU
aware problems, such as real-time tra c estimation, environment sensing, and city pro l- (1992-1993)
ing. PLASH provides GUI for LAS users to construct their APPs without programming skill. ● MTS, AT&T Bell Labs (1989-1992)
In addition, application builders can contribute their mature applications as a service com-
ponent hosted in the system for other users to develop more sophisticated applications.
(2) Personalized Auto-Quiz for English Learning (Auto-quiz)
In this project, we study and implement an English quiz system to help learners to determine their English capability. For a given unseen
text, the Auto-quiz system will provide personalized questionnaires to test the learner’s English capability and text comprehension.
Based on the learner scores on the questionnaires, the system will adjust the learner pro ciency level, which will be used in the genera-
tion of forthcoming questionnaires. We also study related issues, including text readability evaluation, learner capability measurement,
text understanding, and automatic English questionnaire generation.
Besides the above projects, I also work on several ongoing projects, including wireless network, mobility management, and network
security.
