Abstract
Indiais a country possessing many languages, a variety of dialects and scripts. They have traditional and systematic way of articulatory and phonetic description of sounds.
In the recent past a lot of efforts have been made on one hand to conduct basic research and on the other hand to develop technology for these languages for Human-Machine interaction purpose.
The talk presents efforts made to study some of the phonetic and prosodic features of these languages. – Particularly Hindi. Several types of general purpose and task specific data bases and technologies have been developed for many applications. Some important achievements made have been highlighted.
