Facebook Graph Search

Abstract

The Facebook Graph contains more than 1.1 billion users and over 1 trillion edges and keeps growing. Graph Search is the Facebook new search product that allows querying the objects on the Facebook Graph through both text and the edges. The talk will introduce the anatomy of the Graph Search. It will cover the infrastructure of the search backend, indexing, retrieving and ranking with social bias.
 

BIO

Scott Chen was born in Taipei, Taiwan. He received the B.S. degree in electrical engineering and the M.S. degree in communication engineering both from National Taiwan University in 2000 and 2002 respectively. He received the PhD. degree in electrical engineering with a minor in applied computation mathematics from California Institute of Technology. Scott Chen joined Facebook in 2009. His areas of work including distributed systems for data processing, erasure codes for distributed storage, and search ranking.
Scott Chen has been actively working on open-source Apache Hadoop and Hbase projects. He has become a committer for Apache Hadoop MapReduce project since 2010. He is currently leading the people search team in Facebook.
