Abstract
Mixed reality (MR) is rapidly emerging as a transformative platform that fundamentally redefines how we interact with physical and digital environments. This talk presents a forward looking exploration of key technologies and a vision for next generation scalable intelligent MR systems. By fusing remote server power with local headset tracking to hide network delays, intelligently prioritizing visual quality based on user attention and motion to cut bandwidth demands, and leveraging advanced artificial intelligence for true environmental awareness with natural voice interaction and precise perception of dynamic objects, these converging technologies unlock seamless immersive experiences across education healthcare entertainment and beyond.
BIO
Dr. Chih-Wei Huang is a professor at National Central University in Taiwan, where he previously served as director of the Interdisciplinary Program of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science. His research focuses on wireless networking, AI-native communication systems, and multimedia streaming, with notable contributions to cross-layer resource allocation, intelligent network architectures, and mixed-reality streaming technologies. He has received multiple distinctions, including best paper awards at IEEE ICC, the Future Tech Award from Taiwan's National Science and Technology Council, and the Technology Award from IEEE ComSoc MMTC. He also serves as an associate editor of IEEE Wireless Communications Letters and as a member of the organizing committee of IEEE GLOBECOM. His academic work has involved collaborations across Asia, Europe, and North America and has influenced emerging directions in AI-driven communication systems, including contributions to the 6G Flagship white paper. Dr. Huang received his B.S. from National Taiwan University, his M.S. from Columbia University, and his Ph.D. from the University of Washington, all in electrical engineering.
