摘要

We have built a system called MeePo. MeePo can provide seamless service to users in the campus on various kinds of operating systems.

MeePo provides very simple interface for users. A virtual disk is inserted into the user desktop where the data can be found. We have build three different kinds of storage mechanism for different purpose. The personal data will be put into the MySpace folder that can be synchronized to the cloud storage backend. Users can be organized as groups and each group is given 1T cloud storage. In such scenario, the people with common interests can be put to the same social group. We call it as social storage. MeePo also provides public spaces that can be access by all persons. Public spaces store a lot of datathat might be needed by a lot of or even every person such as office software, Linux ISOs etc. In this talk, I will give the preliminary picture of MeePo system as well as experiences that is gotten while building such a not so large cloud storage system.

BIO

Kang Chen received his bachelor’s degree of computer science and technology in 1999 from Tsinghua University and Ph.D of the same area from the same university. Before joining Tsinghua University, he worked at Intel China Research Center as a senior software engineer.

He is interested in distributed systems especially storage systems. He has joinedseveral project related to distributed systems. His previous work focused on building a virtual cluster system that uses virtual machines to form virtual clusters instead of physical ones.  In a virtual cluster system, users and applications can be provided with customized environment such as tailored operating systems and specified application environment. He is now doing the project named MeePo which provides the backend cloud storage for Tsinghua University.
