M2M technologies are emerging to enable all machines with network connectivity and achieve the goal of “network everything”. Forrester, a research firm in the United States, forecasts the value of M2M industry will be 30 times bigger than the value of the Internet and will form the next trillion level of ICT business. In response to this need, NSC has approved the establishment of a “Deep Plowing Center for the Industrial Base of Network and Information Systems” at NCTU to work on “Cloud and Big Data Computing Platforms for M2M Communications Systems”.
The center will promote this project from three key perspectives: deep plowing research, rooted education and industry-university collaboration.   This talk will introduce NCTU plan for the effort from these three perspectives with more emphasis on M2M research.
 

Fuchun Joseph Lin (林 甫俊) is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science of National Chiao Tung University (NCTU) and also serves as Associate Chief Director of Microelectronics and Information Systems Research Center at NCTU.   He was a Chief Scientist in Network Systems Research of Telcordia Technologies Applied Research before he joined NCTU in August 2012.  He was with Telcordia Technologies and Bell Labs in the USA for more than 20 years and frequently served as an oversea advisor for MOE, MOTC and MOEA projects in Taiwan while worked in the USA.  He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Ohio State University in Columbus, Ohio and his BS and MS in Computer Science from National Chiao-Tung University in Hsinchu, Taiwan.  His technical focus has been in the areas of integrated services and network convergence for next generation fixed and mobile networks (NGN).  More information about Prof. Lin can be found at http://people.cs.nctu.edu.tw/~fuchun_lin/.http://people.cs.nctu.edu.tw/~fuchun_lin/
