Academician Lee is a Distinguished Research Fellow of the Institute of Information Science, Academia Sinica, of the Research Center for Information Technology and Genomics Research Center, and also holds a joint appointment as a Professor with the Dept. of Computer Science and Information Engineering, and the Graduate Institute of Electronics Engineering, National Taiwan University.
His research interests include design and analysis of algorithms, computational geometry, VLSI layout and systems, bioinformatics, digital libraries, software security, web-based computing and algorithm visualization. He has published over 150 papers in scientific journals, serves on the editorial boards of several journals, and holds a few patents in the US and in Taiwan.
He has been involved with several large-scale projects, sponsored by the National Science Council, Taiwan, including the “Content Science for Media-Rich Life”- program for promoting academic excellence of universities, “Taiwan Information Security Center”- program for cultivating talents and building human capacity in information security, “International Collaboration for Advancing Security Technology” program for R&D of advanced technologies in information security, in cooperation with Carnegie Mellon Univerisity and University of California at Berkeley, and “National Digital Archives Program, Taiwan”- a Science and Technology Program in Social Sciences and Humanities, etc. He has made significant contributions to building a trustworthy and quality digital information infrastructure in Taiwan Academician Lee is a Fellow of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). He was a recipient of the Outstanding Research Award from the Pan Wen-Yuan Foundation (2001) and of the Information Science Honorary Medal from the Institute of Information and Computing Machinery in Taiwan (2002) and elected a member of the Academia Sinica in 2004 and received Humboldt Research Award in 2007.
