摘要

The Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT) is the combination of Artificial Intelligence (AI) with the Internet of Things (IoT) infrastructure to provide more efficient IoT operations, improve human-machine interactions and enhance data management and analytics. The key challenge is how to enable AIoT infrastructures to be smart, easy to manage and scalable. To address this challenge, we have developed a virtualization-based IoT gateway to support sensor nodes with heterogeneous network protocols, and an ontology-driven AIoT infrastructure to ease deployment and enhance scalability.

Our AIoT infrastructure is distributed and edge-oriented, with the edge nodes being powerful enough to run machine learning models for event detections and preliminary analysis. The event detection and preliminary analysis results, together with the relevant sensor data, are sent to the cloud backend for detailed processing. As a use case for AIoT infrastructures, we are designing and implementing distributed person re-identification techniques for video surveillance in Smart Cities.
